Suffragists made vigorous use of their First Amendment rights throughout the movement with petitions, speeches, articles, and of course, protest marches. Marching in a reenactment protest gave all of the participants a real world experience of how it felt to “Live your Freedoms” by actually doing it. The marchers had banners, homemade signs, even homemade daffodils - the Maine suffrage flower - fashioned from paper cups and paint stirring sticks.
We plan to reenact a suffragist march again next year to commemorate the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. Please join us in Augusta in 2020!
